A free SetHero alternative
SetHero prices per project, scaled by how many people are on your production and how many days you are shooting. Green Room builds and emails call sheets for free, with no per-project fee and no cap on cast and crew.
The honest version of this comparison
SetHero is a call sheet tool and it is good at the thing it exists for. Its central feature is delivery: sending call sheets and then tracking who opened and who confirmed. That is a real capability and Green Room does not match it.
Green Room emails the call sheet as a PDF to everyone on it, and that is where its involvement ends. It does not report opens, it has no link a recipient clicks to confirm, and it does not track confirmations at all. If knowing who has read the sheet is the reason you use SetHero, that reason still stands.
Where Green Room wins is scope and price. The call sheet is generated from the schedule, the scenes, the cast attached to those scenes, the location, and your contacts, because all of it already lives in the same production file. And it is free at any crew size and any number of shoot days.
| Green Room | SetHero | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Per project or monthly, no public list price |
| Priced by | Nothing | Number of cast and crew, and number of shooting days |
| Crew size limit | None | Part of what the price scales on |
| Emails the call sheet | Yes, PDF to cast and crew | Yes, email and SMS |
| Open and delivery tracking | No | Yes |
| Confirmation tracking | None | Yes, by link |
| Built from a schedule and breakdown | Yes, same production file | Call sheet focused |
| Scheduling, breakdowns, shot lists, budget | Included free | Not its scope |
What the call sheet is built from
The reason a Green Room call sheet takes minutes is that nothing on it is retyped. Schedule the day on the stripboard and the sheet already knows the scenes, the cast in those scenes, and the location.
- —Scenes scheduled for that day, with page counts and times
- —Cast attached to those scenes, with individual call, makeup, and set times
- —Crew with per-person call times
- —Location, address, and parking
- —Sunrise and sunset, and the nearest hospital
- —Weather, notes, and agenda
- —Exported as a PDF and emailed to everyone on the sheet
When SetHero is the right answer
If your production lives or dies on confirmation tracking, for example a large crew where an unread call sheet is a real operational risk, SetHero is built for that and Green Room is not. Saying so is more useful than pretending otherwise.
If your problem is that a per-project fee is hard to justify on a three-day short, or you want the schedule and breakdown in the same place as the call sheet, that is the case for Green Room.
Common questions
- Does Green Room track whether the crew opened the call sheet?
- No. It emails the sheet as a PDF and does not track what happens next: no open tracking, no confirm-by-link, and no confirmation tracking of any kind. SetHero does track opens and confirmations, which is its main strength. If that is what you need, it is the better tool for it.
- Is there a limit on crew size or shoot days?
- No. Green Room does not price on cast and crew count or number of shooting days, so neither is capped.
- Can it send by SMS?
- No. Call sheets go out by email as a PDF attachment.
- How much does SetHero cost?
- SetHero does not publish list prices. Its support documentation explains that pricing is either one-time per project or monthly, and that it scales with the number of cast and crew and the number of shooting days, with a calculator for a specific project. Verified August 20, 2026.
